Prisons Department organises al-Quran competition

IN CONJUNCTION with the celebration of Hijrah New Year, Brunei Prisons Department recently conducted `Reading of Al-Quran verses’ competition for recruits and cadets for intake 1/2009 at Bukit Pantai Hall Jerudong Prison.

At the competition, five participating cadets were asked to recite ‘Surah Al Insyirah’. The first place went to Ak Hj Mohammad Bahrin Pg Hj Jamaluddin while the second place was taken by Mashita Hj Awg Yahya. Nurul Sofizzah Afidah Moho’ or took third place.

The guest of honour was Hj Jasni Hj Abd Latif, Acting Director of the Prisons Department who also presented the prizes to the winners and participating cadets.

Pg Mohd Safuandi Shah Pg Hj Mahatir, a Prisons Department officer who is also the chairman of the event said in his speech, “The event was aimed to fulfil His Majesty the Sultan’s titah in which His Majesty hoped that religious education in the country could be on par with others, urging all to instil a sense of devotion towards al-Quran, and turn it into a habit to become a daily lifestyle of Muslims.”
