INSTITUTE Technology Brunei (ITB) will be holding an IEEE Region 10 special seminar series on Engineering & Technology as part of its Public Lecture Series monthly event. The seminar will be held today, January 11 at 2pm at the ITB Main Conference Room in Kg Tungku.
The IEEE is the world’s largest technical society, bringing members access to the industry’s most essential technical information, networking opportunities, career development tools, and many other exclusive benefits.
The IEEE Region 10, also sometimes referred to as the Asia Pacific Region, comprises 56 Sections, five Councils, 12 Sub-sections, 400+ Chapters and 583 student branches. It covers a geographical area stretching from South Korea and Japan in the northeast to New Zealand in the south, and Pakistan in the west. With a membership of 73,662, it is one of the largest regions in IEEE.
The special seminar will be delivered by five keynote speakers from South Korea, Australia, Singapore, Japan and Brunei Darussalam. Professor Hong-Bong Kang, Chairman of the Division of Digital Media, Catholic University of Korea, South Korea will be talking about “Vision-based Human Computer Interaction Techniques” whilst Professor Janina Mazierska of James Cook University, Australia will touch upon “Superconductors, Semiconductors, Conductors, Insulators: Electric Properties of Materials for Applications in Communication Systems”.
Professor Lawrence Wong of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS) will deliver his paper entitled “Ambient Intelligent Platform for Interactive Digital Media”. A paper on “Robotics and Mechatronics Technology for Human Support” will also be presented by Professor Toshio Fukuda from the Department of Micro-Nano Systems Engineering of the Nagoya University, Japan.
Brunei is represented by Associate Professor Dr Chandratilak De Silva Liyanage from University of Brunei Darussalam who will be introducing the Smart Homes for Energy Efficiency, Eldercare and Security.
