Brunei slot up for grabs in Red Bull female racing team

Amie PDH Ishak Jan 12th, 2010 .

ENERGY beverage company Red Bull Malaysia announced that they will be recruiting a female driver from Brunei for an open spot on the Red Bull Rookies Team 2010.

Now in its third year, the Red Bull Female Driver Search (Malaysia), a unique programme that aims to find, fund and nurture up and coming female drivers to form an all-female racing team, has decided to extend its reach to its neighbouring country, Brunei in giving opportunities to more women with the drive and potential to enter the regional motorsport scene.

“In the first year we limited our reach to the Klang Valley area only, but due to the overwhelming response, our search extended to nationwide Malaysia last year,” said Kevin Low, Team Manager of Red Bull Rookies and Chief Trainer for the Asia Advanced Driving Academy (AADA). “And now for 2010′s plan we will extend our search to Brunei.

“From my past visits to Brunei, I have noticed potential here. Bruneians in general are great motorsport enthusiasts. But like Malaysia three years ago, there seems to be a void in platforms for female-skewed professional race-car drivers,” he added.

“With this in mind, we are confident in finding a capable and talented candidate from Brunei to join our team in Malaysia.”

Interested applicants are encouraged to e-mail in their detailed profiles with a passport size photograph accompanied by a full portrait photograph to redbullbrunei@gmail. com, no later than January 28, 2010.
In order to be considered for the short-listing process, applicants must possess a valid driving license, be at least 1.5 metres in height and aged between 18 to 35 years.

Shortlisted candidates will be notified in February 2010 and called in for a practical test session, which will be conducted by Kevin Low himself.

Following the test, only two candidates from Brunei will be selected to pursue further training at Malaysia’s Sepang International F1 Circuit, and only one of them will be absorbed into the “Red Bull Rookies” 2010 team to compete in the Sepang 1,000km race.

The Red Bull Female Driver Search is the only search for female racers in Malaysia. Previous seasons proved to be a success — the “Red Bull Rookies” team made its debut race performance during the 10th edition of Merdeka Millennium Endurance Race (MMER) in 2008 and its second stint in the inaugural Sepang 1,000km race in 2009.

Since their successful selection, the ladies have been undergoing intensive training modules with AADA, learning the critical and essential aspects of racing in areas such as physical training, team dynamics, racing techniques and interpersonal skills.

The selected driver from Brunei will become a participant of the Sepang 1,000km Endurance Race that will be held on June 3 to 5, along with three teammates from Malaysia.
