TOP notch well-known Filipino professional pool players Efren “Bata” Reyes and Francisco Bustamante, arrived yesterday to take part in the Asia vs Europe Men’s 9-Ball Team Challenge 2010 starting on Friday at the Rizqun International Hotel.

Efren Reyes nicknamed ‘The Magician’ and Bustamante a.k.a. Django will be joining Ko Pin-Yi and Lu Hui Chan from Chinese Taipei and Bruneian Teo Chee Soon in the Asia team to face off against the Europe team of Ko Ralf Souquet from Germany, Darren Appleton and Imran Majid from Great Britain, Ruslan Chinahov from Russia and Nick Van Den Berg from Holland.

It’s the third time that Reyes is taking part in a tournament in Brunei Darussalam. The first time was in
the 1999 SEA Games and the Brunei Invitational 9-ball Pool Championship some four years ago.

In an interview, about the tournament, ‘The Magician’ said: “It will be a very tough match against the top European players. The Europeans are a very solid team and I still don’t know much about my team mates from Chinese Taipei and Brunei.”

“We will need a lot of luck if we are to upset the Europeans. In 9-ball pool, luck is important,” he added.
Meanwhile, Bustamante also shared the same sentiment with Reyes.

“We are expecting tough matches but we will try our best to beat the Europeans who are very young and strong.”

Speaking about competing in Brunei, he said: “This is my first time competing in Brunei and I felt good and privileged to play in this tournament.”
