GUATEMALA, Jan 15 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The implementation of social programmes, achievements and broadening constitutes a central part of the second government report presented by President Alvaro Colom.
The three-chapter document includes details of actions to face the effects of the international economic crisis.
It also explains how it was possible to keep constitutional order despite protests of sectors interested in sacking the president in the wake of the killing of lawyer Rodrigo Rosenberg.
Entitled “We are Making it Together,” the report also has an outline of government plans with an agenda based on strategic programmes of solidarity, governability, productivity and regionality.
It also highlights free education and health and a broadened coverage in these fields.
According to the report, a main achievement last year was the establishment of a new institutional framework based on the implementation of the law of the National Security System.
As part of the interaction between the government and the people, the report shows commitments made in implementing the programme “Gobernando con la Gente (Governing with the People)”, as well as debate on different issues countrywide. –NNN-PRENSA LATINA
