Toyota brings first green car to Brunei

BRUNEI Darussalam will see the very first hybrid car on the road soon as NBT (Brunei) Sdn Bhd unveils the all-new Toyota Prius with Hybrid Synergy Drive (photo below) for the local market today in a “Road to a Greener Brunei” ceremony.

Toyota Prius, designed to protect the environment and ensure a greener future for generations to come, looks set to revolutionise the car industry.

The new Prius combines the powers of a conventional 1.8-litre petrol engine and a nickel-metal hydride battery powered electric motor.

In simple terms, the petrol engine kicks in only when it’s needed, leaving the electric motor to drive the car most of the time. The benefits of the Prius are that lesser fuel is used, less toxic gas emitted, more money saved and giving an unforgettable driving experience.
The Hybrid Synergy Drive enables surplus energy generated by the petrol engine to be converted into electrical energy. This is then stored in the battery, which in turn powers the electric motor. Therefore, the electric motor powers the Prius at startup, cruising or at a stop. And during hard acceleration, the petrol engine would kick in as an additional source of power.

With the futuristic human technology concept, the central display provides all the information drivers will need. The speed and fuel monitors are all digitally enhanced while energy monitors are shown so drivers know which power source is driving the car.

Already well known around the world, the Toyota Prius already has a huge following in Brunei.

In a true demonstration of the long commitment to the environment, HSBC Brunei through its partner Jasra Car Rental Sdn Bhd has already obtained a fleet of the Toyota Prius.
