NGAWI, Indonesia Jan. 19 (NNN-Antara) — President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono expressed the hope here on Monday that the election of district head in Ngawi, East Java, would be peaceful.
“Do not let it cause conflicts or divisions,” he said when dedicating an infrastructure project at Kertonegoro terminal.
He called on Ngawi residents to support any candidates participating in the race and should accept any one who came out as the winner in the election.
The president meanwhile reminded those who later won the race must never forget what they have promised during campaigning. “As leaders and community figures they must be ready at any time to reach out to and join the community, understand what the people want and be populist. Let the authorities concerned determine the results of the election. What is important is work hard and submit to God,” he said.
President Yudhoyono was accompanied by first lady Mrs Ani Yudhoyono and several cabinet members during the visit.
Ngawi would hold the election of district head in May 2010, which is estimated to cost Rp12.7 billion and Rp4.4 billion in case of a runoff.
On the occasion President Yudhoyono thanked current district head Harsono who had led the district for two terms and made the district progress.–NNN-ANTARA
