KINABATANGAN, MALAYSIA, Jan 20 (NNN-BERNAMA) — The number of flood evacuees in this flood-ravaged region on the east coast of Malaysia’s Sabah state has risen to 2,145 from 451 families as the floods worsened.
A spokesman for the Kinabatangan Flood Operations Control Centre said Tuesday that the evacuees had been moved to relief centres which included community and multi-purpose halls, while some had taken shelter with relatives not affected by the floods.
He said most of the victims were from the villages of Kuamut, Tulang-Tulang, Desa Permai, Tangkuyan and Balat, while some victims were evacuated from the villages of Sangau, Bukit Garam and Seri Manis.
Two more villages affected by the floods on Tuesday were Nusa Jaya and Buang Sayang, he told Bernama.
He said the water level of the Kinabatangan River, Malaysia’s second longest river, was at 11 metres — the danger level — at 6pm Tuesday. — NNN-BERNAMA
