MEXICO CITY, Jan 28 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The Anti H1N1 vaccination campaign is now in progress in Mexico with priority to the poorest groups, Health Secretary Jose Angel Cordova said.
Cordova said that the main goal is to protect over 50 percent of the population with the vaccination.
He said the programme is under the Health Caravans and Opportunity Programme provided by the Mexican Welfare Institute providing health services to people lacking resources.
The vaccination campaign in poor areas is targeted to avoid differences in health access between poor and rich since it is a right for all Mexicans to get health care, he said during a ceremony held in Coayuca de Andrade municipality in Puebla state.
While the epidemic is less now, the challenge is to make the poor immune to the disease in order to reduce the risk of complicationsand death.
He said the vaccine is safe and does not cause adverse damages from among the millions already vaccinated and only 62 cases have so far appeared with serious reactions, he said. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
