A delegation from Universiti Brunei Darussalam yesterday afternoon made an initial contact with the National Institute of Development Administration of Thailand (NIDA) on forging academic and research cooperation.

NIDA which was established on April 1, 1966 has grown into a leading Thai educational institution concentrating on graduate studies in fields related to Thailand’s national development

The UBD delegation of Director of Language Centre, Dr Yabit Alas, Director of Academy of Brunei Studies Dr Siti Norkhalbi Hj Wahsalfelah and Senior Lecturer of Language Centre, Datin Hjh Rosnah Hj Ramly, met with Professor Pradit Wanarat, Vice President for Academic Affairs of NIDA to discuss the scope of cooperation.

NIDA and UBD showed interest in cooperation in research, as well as exchange of academicians and students.

Datin Hajah Rosnah said during the meeting, “Academicians from NIDA are welcome to be involved in the Senior Executive Programme that is being conducted by UBD for Brunei government servants.”

Datin Hajah Rosnah also expressed UBD’s interest in the exchange of academicians and students between the two higher learning institutions.

Meanwhile, Dr Yabit Alas highlighted UBD’s search for a Thai lecturer to teach the Thai language at the UBD Language Centre. The Thai language course is scheduled to start in August this year.

A suitable candidate has been found at one of the Thai universities, however there is a need for more options.

Professor Pradit Wanarat, Vice President for Academic Affairs of NIDA, welcomed the idea.

And in the field of research, he pointed out that the institute would like to share any vast research materials and information with UBD.

Professor Pradit Wanarat said NIDA would like to first sign an MoU with UBD in the field of exchange of students and academicians, as well as cooperation in research.

He said, “From the MoU, we can start implementation on research collaboration and exchange programme. However more discussion is needed to finalise the MoU.”

Following the meeting, it was agreed that a delegation from NIDA will visit UBD in March for further discussions.
