CARACAS, Feb 2 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The ruling United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) has accused the opposition of planning an “institutional”coup to overthrow President Chavez.
According to PSUV vice president in the eastern region Aristobulo Isturiz, the “enemies of the government are organising campaigns to win legislative elections of Sept 26, which guarantees the ploy”.
He said that the North American “empire” assigned Venezuelan opposition to get places in the National Assembly of Venezuela.
“Once they get the places they will be able to influence members in the Prosecutor’s Office and the Supreme Court to disqualify President Chavez”.
According to Isturiz they are trying to do the same that happened in Honduras on June 28 last year. “They are looking for an institutional coup”, he added.
According to him the opposition wants the Prosecutor’s Office to disqualify President Chavez, and that is why the president has made a call to the people for “a peaceful counter attack”.
Isturiz claimed the opposition had launched a campaign of violence in some cities of the country as part of the plan.
Meanwhile, the Socialist Party of Venezuela (PCV) denounced the presence in the country of an elite team of Colombian paramilitaries with the objective of attacking revolutionary cadres.
He claimed that there was a list of potential targets, including PCV General Secretary, Deputy Oscar Figuera, besides other social fighters, a member of the Politburo of the PCV Carlos Aquivo said in a press conference.
Aquino said that the existence of the group was detected through “social intelligence” and warned that their objective is to spark conflict between Colombia and Venezuela.
The PCV requested authorities to intensify actions against the activities of “Colombian irregular groups” in Venezuelan territory, which has also been denounced by deputies of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV).
The PSUV claim that the paramilitary forces have gain strength mainly in the opposition-controlled, border states of Zulia and Tachir and have spread to other areas, including Caracas.
Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has denounced that the presence of these “irregular forces” as they were ilinked to the political activity of the opposition which “support violent action to destabilise the government”. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
