KUALA TERENGGANU (Bernama) – Three big names in jet ski sports are among several racers who will participate in the Terengganu World Jetrace Challenge (TWJC) 2010 in the waters of Pulau Duyong off Kuala Terengganu forthree days beginning Feb 4.
The race being held here for the first time is organised by Tropical Marines Resource, Club Terengganu Marina and is sponsored by the Terengganu state government and will see two three-time world champions namely Amy Green and Chris Fischetti.
“Also confirmed for the prestigious championship is British champion Seth Wilkinson,” said the chief executive officer of Tropical Marine Resource Raja Putra Shah Raja Shahar Shah in a statement issued here.
He said more than 1,000 participants in TWJC 2010 are from Serbia, Thailand, Indonesia, Brunei, United Kingdom, Singapore, and Malaysia as host.
He said the championship is being held in line with the desire of the state government which wanted to make the state among world renown sports tourism destinations with the Ri-Yaz Heritage And Resort Spa in Pulau Duyong as the official arena for the championship.
Raja Putra Shah said TWCJ 2010 was also to promote the jet ski or water craft sport in Terengganu.
Also, he said, the race was to make Terengganu as the best sports tourism destination in the country.
“The presence of Fischetti, 42, who is a champion in the standing category, slalom and stand-up super, gives status to the race here and much awaited by jet ski fans.
“Green has been world champion three times and dominated the United States championships with 11 titles,” he said.
He said the championship is being held in 10 categories among them professional, new faces and celebrities with total prize money of RM87,500.
