SOME 200 students from Katok Six Form Centre join in the field trip organised by the school’s Geography Department.

It was organised with the aim of exposing the students to the magnificent landforms found along a stretch of coastline from Tanjung Batu to Muara beach on Sunday.

The trip were headed by Rama Raoul, Stuart Alp, Tang Wei Hoon and teachers from the department, who believed that learning should go beyond the classroom.

They also hoped that this field trip would bring to light among the students on the importance of Geography subject as it touched both the natural and human aspects of the world.

The tour began with an exciting hike over a shallow lagoon which was linked to the steep cliff of Tanjong Batu where the young geographers were expected to collect information needed for their understanding of the natural landforms including berms, simple spit, wave cut platform, a small sea cave and headland cliff.

An interesting fact that the stack of the cliff which was supposedly near the headland is now far offshore from the mainland, this shows that marine erosion has taken place for a long time ago.

Students were then treated to a scenic walk down the famous Muara Beach in which the student allowed to look into an eminent topic on issues regarding human activities upon the coastline.

According to a student, “It provides us with a wonderful opportunity to relate our knowledge acquired in the classroom to the real world.”

Another student explained that the trip has offered him a new experience in learning geography where he can see the true landforms rather than looking photos in the text book.

Moreover, he get to enjoy some of the natural wonders in the country.
