BRAZIL ANNOUNCES NEW PROJECTS TO REBUILD HAITI

BRASILIA, Feb. 6 (NNN-Prensa Latina): The creation of a vocational school, financing an education project and a concert in Port au Prince, are now the new Brazilian programs for the reconstruction of Haiti.

Devastated by an earthquake of 7.0 degrees on the Richter scale on 12 January, Haiti has mobilized the solidarity of different nations.

In this context, the National Confederation of Industries (CNI) and the Serbian National Industrial Apprenticeship (SENAI) of Brazil announced their intention to participate in international efforts to alleviate the damage in the impoverished Caribbean nation.

SENAI, in partnership with the Brazilian Cooperation Agency and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, built in Port-training center with capacity for a thousand students who will qualify initially in the area of civil construction.

The president of the CNI, Armando Monteiro Neto, expressed confidence that this model, very successful in Brazil, adapted to the needs of Haiti and improve living and working conditions of its citizens.

Moreover, the Brazilian Foreign Ministry had donated USD400,000 for one of the three projects with the Organization of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) plans to rebuild the Haitian education system.

The donation was announced by Foreign Minister Celso Amorim after a meeting with the director general of UNESCO, Irina Bokova, at the headquarters of that institution in Paris, on Monday, said the source.

He said the money will go to teacher training and will benefit about 110 thousand students of secondary and tertiary levels.

For his part, the NGO Viva Rio is conducting a musical concert in Puerto Principe, in alliance with the Holy Trinity Music School and the Organization of American States.

The performance will be undertaken by the musicians of the Holy Trinity School, the largest symphony orchestra in Haiti, and chorus singers Small. The group will use the instruments recovered from the rubble of the educational center, which collapsed due to earthquake.
