ECUADOR REJECTS DECEPTIVE ARTICLE IN NEW HERALD

NAM NEWS NETWORK Feb 7th, 2010 .

QUITO, Feb 7 (NNN-Prensa Latina) — The Ecuadorian government strongly rejected the “insidious” article published by the US daily the New Herald, that reports the Andean nation as a center of criminal operations.

Government official told the public ANDES agency that the contents are being analyzed and the origin of the news and legal actions are considered against the authors of the note.

“We are studying with the Chancellery so that the Ecuadorian Embassy in the United States can take corresponding legal actions,” said the Minister of Internal and External Security, Miguel Carvajal.

Carvajal considers that behind these charges is an “insidious policy,” an international campaign to create a negative image of the country and intends to implant the idea that the Government tolerates and promotes criminal and drug trade groups.

He added that this paper contains biased, subjective information with deep insidiousness. He considers that there is a desire to return to the arguments brought about after March 2008 (after bombing of the Colombian army in Angostura).

Carvajal laments the intended ignorance of the work done by Ecuador in the fight against drug traffic and bands organized and noted that 2009 was “spectacularly fruitful” in breaking up groups linked to drug trade.

For his part, Government minister, Gustavo Jalkh also rejected validity of the report and said that this country is a regional reference of good practices and effectiveness in the fight against drug trade, work that has even been recognized by the United States government. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
