“DANCE can change a person into a better individual,” said Khamdhi Asmad or Kham, the Managing Director of Element of Creative Movement (ECM) during tile opening ceremony of a new dance club located at Fitness Zone, The Mall, Gadong yesterday.

Kham, who is also one of the professional dance instructors for ECM, said that their vision is to be the first performing arts centre in Brunei Darussalam to support and promote the creative industry, especially in the area of arts and culture and to generate learning opportunities in performing arts.

Their mission to encourage the evolution of dance through mixed-ability and mixed-level performances is not only focussed on providing youths with the opportunity to create and develop artistically, intellectually and physically but to also guide them towards the right path.

“We want to change people’s perceptions, their state of mind… about dance and art in general, especially here in Brunei,” Kham said.

The managing director also said that ECM wants to work and share their talent and place the Sultanate on the ‘map’ in the dance industrys.

The Element of Creative Movement will commence their dance schedule today (Feb 8) on a variety of dances which include popping, hip-hop, locking, footwork, street dance and dance orientations. ECM also offers beginners to advance level up to 15 sessions per week.

A ribbon cutting ceremony to officiate the opening was conducted by the guest of honour, Miss Anais Maro, Director of Alliance Francaise de Brunei along with Kham, the Managing Director of ECM.
