JUST moments after the giant flag was hoisted in the heart of the capital to mark the start of Brunei Darussalam’s 26th National Day celebrations yesterday morning, each of the four districts followed suit and carried their own flag-hoisting ceremonies.
The Tutong District held its flag-hoisting ceremony at the Pasarneka and Tamu area in Tutong Town. The ceremony began with a convoy parade that culminated at the venue. Led by the Assistant Tutong District Officer Awg Abd Ghani bin Hj Othman, the convoy comprised some 100 scouts and youths holding up standard-sized national flags, vehicles from the Tutong 4WD Association and motorcycles from the Tutong Motorcycle Association (KEKAL).
The guest of honour at the event, Awg Hj Muhammad Suffian bin Hj Bungsu, Acting Tutong District Officer then received the ceremonial national flag from Awg Abd Ghani, and proceeded to pass the flag to Inspector Abd Hafizazuddin bin Hj Abd Wahab, the Detective Supervising Officer of Tutong Police, for the flag hoisting ceremony.
The actual flag raising took place simultaneously with the singing of the national anthem by a choir comprising officers and staff of various government agencies in the district. The choir then sang a number of patriotic songs to further mark the occasion.
The ceremony ended with the presentation of flags by the Acting Tutong District Officer to each of the eight Penghulu Mukims of the Tutong District.
Also in attendance at yesterday’s ceremony were Orang Kaya Jaya Putera Dato Paduka Awg Hj Muhd Taha bin Abd Rauf, Orang Kaya Maha Bijaya Awg Hj Othman bin Uking and Pengiran Setia Negara Pg (Dr) Hj Md Yusof bin Pg Hj Abd Rahim.
