ARAB FORUM OF ELECTRICITY REGULATORS MEETS IN ALGIERS

ALGIERS, Feb 9 (NNN-APS) — The Regulatory Committee for Electricity and Gas (CREG) hosted from Sunday in Algiers a meeting of the Arab Electricity Regulators’ Forum (AERF).

The CREEG has said in a statement here Monday that the two-day meeting constituted a consultation opportunity for regulators and bodies in charge of introducing reforms in the electricity sector in Arab countries.

The aim of the meeting was “to get the electricity sector in Arab countries better organized, exchange basic methods for the working of technical indicators, help in development of Arab regulators and increase exchanges of information, studies and experiences among the members”.

The forum’s agenda included the association’s working schedule, its financial situation and a report on the conference organized by the World Bank last December over the situation of development infrastructures in North Africa and the Middle East.

The forum’s members are Algeria, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Lebanon, Palestine, Oman, Qatar and Egypt. The representatives of Morocco, Tunisia and Libya attended the meeting as observers.

The forum is chaired by Saudi regulator ECRA, while the secretaryship is held by Jordanian regulator JESRC. Earlier meeetings of the forum took place in Cairo (2007), in Muscat (2008) and in Bahrain (2009). — NNN-APS
