A 21-YEAR-OLD local man was fined $750 or jail for a month in default of payment after pleading guilty to possession of alcoholic beverages before the Bandar Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
Mac Gary bin Garrol was caught red-handed smuggling 16 cans of Tiger beer through a ‘mouse trail’ at Kg Bebuloh near Limbang border by a group of Customs Preventive officers conducting an operation named `Belantara II’ at about 2pm on January 30, 2010.
The defendant who drove his vehicle through the `mouse trail’ was tailed up to Batang Mitus Lower Secondary School where the car was finally stopped and inspected.
The bootleg was found underneath the defendant’s vehicle’s passenger seat and driver’s seat.
Meanwhile, a local man, aged 22, was fined $1000 or a month in prison in default of payment after he pleaded guilty to possessing smuggled cigarettes.
Mohammad Zefeandi Arshad bin Zefry was detained by Narcotics Control Bureau Officers who tailed the defendant and his father-in-law driving a vehicle from Ujung Jalan Temburong up to their home at Kg Sungai Tanit Temburong on November 26, 2009. Officers discovered 110 packets of various brands of cigarettes which the defendant admitted welt smuggled into was transferred to the customs authorities for further action
