RABAT, Feb 9 (NNN-MAP) — At the invitation of the United Nations Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy, Christopher Ross, Morocco will take part in the second informal meeting in preparation for the 5th round of negotiations to find a political and final solution to the regional dispute over the Western Sahara.
The Moroccan delegation to thje informal talks, to be held from Feb 9 to 11 in Armonk on the outskirts of New York City, will comprise Foreign Minister Taib Fassi Fihri, the Director of Morocco’s intelligence agency, DGED, Mohamed Yassine Mansouri, and the Secretary General of the Royal Advisory Council for Saharan Affairs (CORCAS), Maouelainin Ben Khalihanna Maouelainin, the Foreign Ministry here said in a statement Monday.
The informal meeting, which will be attended by Morocco, Algeria, Mauritania and the Polisario, is part of the implementation of the UN Security Council resolutions 1813 of 2008 and 1871 of 2009 which call upon the parties to enter into a phase of intense and substantial negotiations, taking into account of the efforts made by Morocco since 2006 and showing realism and a spirit of compromise.
Morocco will participate in this informal meeting with goodwill and a constructive spirit, the foreign ministry statement said.
The kingdom hopes that the other parties will abandon their rigid logic and adhere to a positive momentum to reach a realistic and feasible political solution of compromise for the benefit of peace, stability and the development of the region within the regional gathering of the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU) which is amde up of Algeria, Libya, Mauritania, Morocco and Tunisia. — NNN-MAP![]()
