LIMA, Feb 9 (NNN-ANDINA) – In order to prevent a collapse of the tourism industry due to recent floods and rain in Cusco, tourism related businesses are running a campaign promoting their services at half price to attract domestic tourists.
This was announced by Cusco?s governor Hugo Gonzales Sayan, who said such an initiative involves all tourism-related businesses, such as hotels, restaurants, airlines, travel agencies, among others.
The purpose is to promote tourist attractions in Cusco such as Sacsayhuaman, Chincheros Tipon, Puca Pucara, as well as the historical-religious circuit.
“If you want to stay in a hotel that used to be US$200 a night, now you can save US$100 dollars”, he said.
He said the campaign is mainly targeted at domestic visitors because the citadel of Machu Picchu is still the main destination for foreign tourists.
Meanwhile in Arequipa, with the aim of attracting more foreign tourists, authorities here will promote their tourist-friendly “White City” as a UNESCO world heritage site.
Trade and tourism director Rocio Cervantes pointed out that the title that Arequipa now flaunts gives it a special tourist aggregate that should be widely spread.
?Many tourists who visit the city are not aware of this ,? she added.
He said regional tourism authorities, the National Institute of Culture (INC) and local tour operators have joined forces to promote Arequipa’s World Heritage Site status. — NNN-ANDINA
