BRUNEI National Petroleum Company (PetroleumBRUNEI) and its operator Nations Petroleum yesterday held a meeting to update its stakeholders on the upcoming drilling activities on Block L.
The meeting, which was held at the Tutong District Office, saw PetroleumBRUNEI represented by its Chief Petroleum Engineer, Pg Hj Mohd Amirrudin bin Pg Hj Razali while Nations Petroleum was represented by its Vice President, Mr Dave Blevins.
The Chief Petroleum Engineer was there to answer any questions the stakeholders had regarding issues including those of land and drilling.
Also in attendance at the meeting was the Acting District Officer of Tutong Hj Md Suffian Hj Bongsu, as well as senior officials from various government departments and several village heads.
The meeting was a follow-up to further discuss the issues raised during the stakeholders dialogue held at Sekolah Menengah RIPAS, Kampong Birau on February 5.
Amongst the issues discussed were the Traffic Management Plan and Emergency Management Plan for the drilling activities.
Mr Paul Booley, a Health Safety Environment (HSE) Consultant speaking for Nations Petroleum, said that the Traffic Management Plan is in place to address various hazards, as well as to work with the safety and convenience of the local residents in mind.
Among the features of the emergency plan was a structure of reporting lines and on-site emergency drills once the rig is complete.
“We are looking forward to working with the Police, Medical and Fire services to ensure a robust plan,” said Mr Paul Booley.
Two exploration wells that will be drilled in the Tutong District are Lukut-1 and Lempuyang-1.
According to the information provided by PetroleumBRUNEI: “Work is due to begin soon on the construction of a drilling site, after which a drilling rig will be moved onto the site to be followed by the drilling of the Lukut-1 well.
“Upon completion of the drilling activity at the Lukut-1 well, a similar workflow will take place with the drilling of the Lempuyang-1 well. These drilling
activities will take place in Mukim Kiudang.”
It is the first time that drilling is set to take place in the areas, which was selected based on seismic studies from which they showed best potential.
It was revealed in yesterday’s meeting that civil works for the levelling of Lukut-1 are set to begin on March 15, and work on both the Lukut-1 and Lempuyang-1 should be completed in September this year.
