VIENNA, Feb 10 (NNN-KUNA) — The International Energy Atomic Agency (IAEA) has said that its inspectors are monitoring uranium enrichment operations at Iran’s Natanz site.
An IAEA spokesman told reporters Tuesday that a team of the agency’s inspectors was currenty at Natanz, central Iran, where uranium was being enriched to 20 per cent.
He said it was too early to give details about the elements inspected by the inspectors.
But the spokesman said the inspectors would take their notes over their mission and would be included in the IAEA Director-General’s report over Tehran’s compliance with the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
Iran said earlier in the day that it has started uranium enrichment to 20 per cent at Natanz, at a time the Western countries threatened with more sanctions against Tehran if it proceeds to produce highly-enriched uranium.
The IAEA director-general had already expressed concerns over the Iranian sudden move to enrich uranium to 20 per cent.
Iranian Ambassador to the IAEA Al Asghar Soltaneih said Tehran was ready to continue negotiations over sending low-enriched uranium abroad for further enrichment to be used in the medical research reactor in Tehran.
