KUWAIT, Feb 13 (NNN-KUNA) — Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Dr. Mohammad Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah Friday termed as “excellent” the relations between Kuwait and Iraq, and that they should be invested in a “positive” manner.
“We want these relations to continue in a good manner and that we establish a security belt for the Kuwait-Iraq borders, which enables the two countries to jointly maintain security of borders, so they (borders) will not be a source of concern to any party nor a point of breach by any terrorist operation,” Sheikh Mohammad told reporters while visiting Azayez Farm in Al-Abdali area, northern Kuwait, at invitation of Capital Governor Sheikh Ali Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah.
Sheikh Mohammad and members of the foreign affairs committee at the parliament had visited the border areas near Iraq recently to have a first-hand account about the situation on the groud.
This visit was “important and necessary,” said Sheikh Mohammad.
“Everybody saw and was convinced that this area must be secured,” he added.
The MPs, he went on, were briefed about repeated problems occuring on common borders with Iraq, “particularly with (Iraqi) families living on the border line.”
Sheikh Mohammad proposed the visit to the MPs to see the nature of these infringements.
The Kuwaiti top diplomat said Iraq undertood these issues “and we are in an agreement in principle that the border area should be secured.” Sheikh Mohammad, on the other hand, said there were more than 100 diplomatic missions in Kuwait which make the Gulf country attractive to the whole world, which was thus in harmony with His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah’s vision to turn Kuwait into a regional financial hub. — NNN-KUNA
