KANGAR, Malaysia Feb 15 (NNN-Bernama) — Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) hosted its foreign students to a Chinese New Year open house last night, showcasing the country’s unique tradition and harmony among the people under the 1Malaysia concept.
The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, was the guest of honour at the event attended by about 120 international students including 45 from China.
The event also featured lion dance and cultural performances by students of the university.
In his speech Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, who is UniMAP chancellor, said Malaysia had been able to maintain long-lasting peace as the people were united under the 1Malaysia concept.
He added that foreigners in the country too benefited from the country’s peace and stability.
“We welcome foreigners in sectors which need them but we should avoid taking advantage of the country’s peace to do as we please,” he said, adding that Malaysians abroad should also abide by the law of their host countries.
Also present were the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Lailatual Shahreen Akashah who is UniMAP pro-chancellor, and UniMAP vice-chancellor Prof Dr Kamarudin Hussin.
