STUDENTS of Kiarong Primary School (SR Kiarong) and Kiarong Religious School can now enjoy additional educational services provided courtesy of a mobile library that was launched yesterday, in a move that could set a precedent for other schools in the country.

The new service was officially launched by the Senior District Supervisor of Primary Schools for Brunei Regions and III, Hj Awg Salim bin Hj Muntol, the guest of honour at the event.

While the events leading up to the launch were held indoors, at the Dewan Sejahtera of SR Kiarong, the actual mobile library was launched outside, at the Petak Ceria Blok Cemerlang of the school compound.

Prior to the launch, the Principal of SR Kiarong, Hjh Taibah binti Hj Ahmad who was also the chairperson of the event’s organising committee, spoke at the event and commended the support of the Language and Literature Bureau (DBP) in helping the schools “play an active role in nurturing, leading andguiding to develop an interest in reading among children and school members in general” through the mobile library services.

“There is no denying that the high technology age is challenging the functions of books,” said Hjh Taibah. “Knowledge is no longer focussed entirely on books, but is imparted through a variety of platforms.

However, we as leaders of the youths will continue to guide and increase efforts to cultivate the love of reading and knowledge among students in schools in particular and society in general.”

The event also saw a briefing by Hj Sahri bin Hj Ahmad, Head of Libraries which was followed by educational song performances by the school pupils.

The ceremony ended with the presentation of books donated by the school’s Parents-Teachers Association to the school’s principal.
The guest of honour later toured an exhibition that had been set up by DBP and the libraries of SR Kiarong and Kiarong Religious School.
