QAF FC clinched their 3rd consecutive title last night as they were crowned champion of the DST Group Brunei Premier League 1 after beating AH United FC 2-0 at the Track and Field Sports Complex in Berakas.
Cameroonian import goal scoring machine Vivan Francis Bayong scored one goal in each half to helped QAF FC; the defending champion to seal the title.
“Although several individual mistakes were committed by some players, the sportsmanship and teamwork shown have given us a good result and we managed to hold on till the final whistle,” said QAF FC team manager Rahim Hj Daud last night.
“I am proud of my players as well as the team management where we manage to once again be proud to be the champion in this year’s edition,” Rahim said.
He further said that after securing the third trophy last night — winning the Cup Winner’s Cup, League Cup and the Premier 1 title — the team is getting ready for the next challenge, which is the FA Cup.
“We need to work very hard on this as we never get through to the semifinals in the previous year. Off course we want to win all the trophies but as I said we need to do extra homework for us to get through,” said the team manager.
QAF FC who started fiercely in finding their first goal, almost hit the target. However Vivan’s cross from the right flank failed to be converted by Hamizan Aziz Sulaiman as his shot went off target.
Not long after that, AH United’s goalie Ak Ahmad Fitri Pg Momin’s mistake led QAF FC to open accounts.
The goalie who went out from his territory failed to clear the ball cleanly and QAF FC’s Md Mardi Mirza Bujang Abdullah brilliantly passed the ball to an unmarked Vivan who blasted the ball to the empty net in the 34th minute to make the scoreline 1-0.
The attacking rhythm was continued, this time through left winger Ak Md Kamarul Ariffin Pg Ramlee whose curling free-kick from outside the penalty box almost went in to the AH United’s net but was punched away by the goalie for a corner kick.
AH United FC coached by Hj Rosaidi Hj Kamis also got their scoring chances but the defensive line led by QAF FC’s team captain Riwandi Wahit was rock solid and the score remained 1-0 till the half time whistle.
Sixteen minutes after the breather, Vivan scored his second goal with a brilliant through pass from Md HendraAzam Mohd Idris. He easily converted the ball in the 61st minute with a low drive shot.
The scoreline remained till the final whistle despite some fightback from AH United.
At the Berakas Sports Complex, Royal Brunei Armed Forces Sports Council (MS ABDB) whipped Wijaya FC 4-1. Md Amir Ajmal scored twice (8′h and 61st minute) followed by Zoolhilmi (40th minute) and Rosmin Hj Kamis (68′h minute) scoring one goal a-piece.
