AT LEAST 18,000 people in 148 teams including uniformed personnel are expected to take part in the mass procession to commemorate Prophet Muhammad’s (peace be upon him) birthday, which will take place on Saturday, February 27.
This was disclosed by the event’s working committee during a briefing yesterday held at the Seri Begawan Religious Teachers University College (KUPUSB) in the capital.
The grand procession will begin from the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien starting from 7am onwards.
Participants will be from primary, secondary and religious schools, colleges and higher institutions, private associations, government ministries and departments, villages, mosques, prayer halls and mukim (sub-village) and village consultative councils.
At the meeting heads of the participating teams the working committee discussed the arrangement of the grand procession and other matters pertaining to it such as the banner, the salawat or praises for the prophet to be recited throughout the procession, the transportation and emergency medical services to be provided on the day.
They were also told that participants were required of the need from to wear the national attire, Cara Melayu and to bring an appropriate supply of water.
They were also informed by a health official that a total of seven ambulance have been allocated for the celebration, including two for VVIPs, in which around 100 medical attendants are to be assigned, including doctors, nurses and paramedics.
A representative from the Royal Brunei Police Force meanwhile, briefed participants on the time they are expected to arrive at the procession. He also explained the designated routes going to the capital as certain roads will be closed for the day.
To ease traffic congestions, the police advised participants to carpool with friends or family members.The briefing also emphasised that everyone involved in the celebration to be responsible in keeping the Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, where the participants will gather prior and after the procession, clean.
They were to take home all materials used during the procession, especially the banners, with them, and not simply leave them behind.
A similar briefing was also held at the Hassanal Bolkiah Mosque in Tutong. Some 8,132 people from 50 teams are expected to take part in the Tutong’s Maulidur Rasul gathering at Tutong Community Hall.
