LA PAZ, Feb 21 (NNN-Prensa Latina): The number of Bolivian families affected by floods has now risen to 40,000, defense minister, Ruben Saavedra said..
He said the worst affected areas were in the Amazon region of Beni (northeastern).
According to Saavedra, 95 percent of those affected across the Andean country have received assistance from the Vice Ministry of Civil Defense.
Other areas severely affected by the torrential downpours are Cochabamba (center), Santa Cruz (east), La Paz (west) and Chuquisaca (southeast).
The aid given by the government at an early stage in the delivery of food supplies, tents and personal hygiene items, medicines as well.
The next phase, after the floods will see the implementation of reconstruction and rehabilitation of infrastructure from next April, he said.
According to the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI), rains will continue until late March.
