SYRIAN PM MEETS FRENCH COUNTERPART

NAM NEWS NETWORK Feb 21st, 2010 .

DAMASCUS, Feb 21 (NNN-KUNA) — Syrian Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Al-Otri warned Saturday that Israel’s policies would have dire consequences not just on the area, but on the whole world, given that Tel Aviv was hinting of going to war with some countries of the region.

During talks with French Prime Minister Francois Fillion, Al-Otri said that tension and instability in the Middle East was due to the Israeli occupation of Arab territories, continued aggression against the Palestinian people, the siege on Gaza Strip and the building of settlements.

He reiterated Syria’s support for comprehensive and just peace, but said that this could not be achieved by one side alone.
Al-Otri hoped that Europe, and specifically France, would place an active role in the stalled peace process and to pressure Israel into lifting the siege on Gaza.

On Iraq, he said that Syria was doing its best to contribute to instilling peace in Iraq and to achieve inter-Palestinian reconciliation.

The Syrian premier also expressed his country’s content with the positive steps that had been taken in Lebanon, which served to consolidate its security and stability, alongside the improvement relations between Damascus and Beirut.

He also said that Fillion’s visit to Damascus was a new phase in bilateral cooperation. –NNN-KUNA
