KHARTOUM, Feb 22 (NNN-KUNA) — Leaders of Sudan, Qatar and Chad will meet in Doha Monday to discuss peace in Darfur, a Sudanese official said here.
Amin Hassan Omar, head of the Sudanese government delegation to the Doha talks with the rebels in Darfur, said in a statement Sunday the three-way summit between Sudanese and Chadian Presidents, Omar Al-Bashir and Idriss Deby respectively, and Qatari Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani would discuss peace in Darfur and relations between Sudan and Chad.
Omar said the signing of the peace agreement between the Sudanese government and the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) would take place on Tuesday. Both sides signed a framework agreement Saturday paving way for a ceasefire.
He noted that all JEM arrestees would be released once the peace deal was signed.
Omar denied his government held behind-the-scene deals with JEM.
JEM is the most powerful movement in Darfur among the 26 factions.
Doha is hosting negotiations between Khartoum and the movements in Darfur, mediated by the Arab League and African Union (AU).
Sudan’s Liberation Movement is outside the negotiation process and has refused the framework agreement.
