HIS Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam joined hundreds of his subjects to perform the Maghrib and Isyak prayers at the Sultan Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien Mosque yesterday evening in conjunction with the 26th National Day which the nation celebrates today.
Accompanying His Majesty were His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office; Their Royal Highnesses Prince ‘Abdul ‘Azim, Prince ‘Abdul Malik and Prince ‘Abdul Mateen.
The event commenced with the Maghrib prayers led by Pehin Siraja Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Yahya Hj Ibrahim. This was followed by solat sunat hajat led by Pehin Orang Kaya Paduka Seri Utama Dato Paduka Seri Setia Hj Salim Besar to seek blessings from Allah (SWT) for the nation and its people.
A recital of Surah Yassin which was led by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Badaruddin Pengarah Dato Paduka Hj Othman and a thanksgiving doa read by the State Mufti Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Abdul Aziz Juned followed shortly after the sunat hajat prayers.
The congregation was then led to perform the Isyak prayer by Pehin Dato Imam Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Hj Abdul Hamid Bakal.
Mosque-goers comprising civil servants and some of the private sectors were instructed to finish work as early as 4pm yesterday to join in the special prayers for the country’s continued prosperity and protection from catastrophes.
Upon leaving the mosque, the congregation took the opportunity to greet His Majesty and other members of the royal family.
The event was a serious but yet joyful time for both the young and the old, locals as well as foreigners, who expressed gratitude to Allah (SWT) for 26 years of independence; having enjoyed over two decades of immense growth in various areas and developing Brunei into what it is now.
Among those who attended the ceremony were the nation’s statesmen, ministers, deputy ministers and senior government officials as well as members of the public. Similar thanksgiving ceremony and prayers were also held throughout the nation in mosques in all four districts. The Brunei Times
