This morning more than 20,000 people will amass at Taman Haji Sir Muda Omar Ali Saifuddien in the town centre to take part in a grand and vibrant National Day celebration.


Last night, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to attend a mass Maghrib and Isya’ prayers held at Omar Ali Saiffudien Mosque in celebration of the 26th National Day of Brunei Darussalam.
Members of the royal family including HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, HRH Prince Haji ‘Abdul ‘Azim, HRH Prince ‘Abdul Malik and HRH Prince ‘Abdul Mateen attended the prayers.
It is a tradition to hold mass prayers the night before the National Day celebration.
The mass recital of surah yassin was led by Pehin Udana Khatib Dato Paduka Seri Setia Ustaz Haji Badaruddin.
A doa in conjunction with the National Day celebration was also read by State Mufti, Pehin Datu Seri Maharaja Dato Paduka Seri Setia Dr Ustaz Haji Awang Abdul Aziz bin Juned.
The State Mufti prayed to Allah the Almighty for Brunei Darussalam to continue enjoy prosperity and harmony, for Allah to provide the strength and the vitality for the people to be able to uphold the nation’s philosophy of Malay Islamic Monarchy and bravely face challenges.
He also prayed to give strength for the people to be able to maintain the nation’s sovereignty and for the people to work diligently with undivided loyalty to the Sultan and the nation.
He also prayed to Allah to avert the country from calamities such as diseases and natural disasters, especially from the Influenza A (H1N1) virus or whatever maladies that are currently affecting the world.
In his prayer he also asked blessings from Allah for the nation to maintain unity, because unity among the people is important, without which the country will be in ruins.
He also asked from Allah the Almighty to bless the country with fertile land for the nation to be able to grow abundance of rice for the people.
