HARARE, Feb 23 (NNN-NEW ZIANA) — Tourism has the capacity to integrate diverse societies and contribute to processes of national healing, says Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Walter Mzembi.
Addressing participants of a Joint Command and Staff course here Monday, he said tourism enhanced cohesion and healing among nationals. “At the socio-political level, the sector has great capacity for socially integrating diverse peoples across borders at inter-country, inter-regional and inter-continental levels,? he added.
“Most critically for us, tourism augers very well for our national unity building and healing as people from different districts, provinces, ethnic groups and political parties come together be it in business, leisure, sport or tourism,? he added.
Muzembi said the greatest strength of Zimbabwe?s tourism sector was the people who were hardworking and hospitable. “Our greatest strength lies in the diversity of our people?s cultures,? he said. ?Our cultures, which still exist in their traditional indigenous forms in many places, remain exotic in their subtle differences.”
He said complementing these attributes were the natural and man-made resources which, however, required attention and upgrading.
Mzembi said stakeholders, including the defence forces, should join in efforts to revive the tourism sector. “We regard the current leadership of our Defence Forces not as ordinary soldiers, but as persons who mentally embody the ethos and legacy of our nation as self-liberators,? he said.
He said the government would continue to source for resources to revamp the sector.
?We are working closely with our private sector in a strong Public-Private Partnership (PPP),? he said. ?We will continue to scout for the much needed investment into the sector.? — NNN-NEW ZIANA![]()
