GAZA, Feb 24 (NNN-KUNA) — Deposed Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniya has called for a fresh intifada or uprising in the West Bank against Israel’s recent decision to include Palestinian religious sites there in its alleged heritage list.
Addressing a gathering here Tuesday, Haniya said that people in the West Bank must respond “with a popular intifada and a practical response.”
Haniya said that Israel was trying “to disfigure the Islamic and Palestinian features and underestimate the Palestinian negotiators ” through peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian National Authority (PNA).
He called on the PNA “to stop negotiations with Israel in response to its recent decision.”
Haniya, whose Hamas movement has been ruling the Gaza Strip since 2007, called on all Arab countries to support the Palestinian resistance and break the Israeli-led siege on the Palestinian enclave.
Israel has recently decided to include in its alleged Jewish heritage list the Al-Haram Al-Ibrahimi Mosque (sanctuary of Abraham) in Al-Khalil (Hebron), the West Bank, and the Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque in Bethlehem, also in the West Bank, triggering much ire across the Arab world.
