LA PAZ, Feb 25 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – The Bolivian Government has decided to suspend corn and sorghum exports as exceptional and temporary measure to stabilise prices and avoid smuggling.
Minister for Rural Development and Lands Nemesia Achacollo said that once the decree is promulgated there will be no reasons for a rise in the prices of chicken meat on the internal market.
Authorities made the decision in defense of national interest, faced with rises in the prices of chicken, corn, and sorghum.
She explained it is a transitory measure intended to normalise costs of the products and ensure food sovereignty.
The Armed Forces, the police and customs offices will enforce the decree and be in charge of seizing products on their way to neighbouring countries, she said.
The government will coordinate with local governments the commercialisation and transport of the products at fair prices on the internal market and speculators will be sanctioned according to the law, Achacollo added. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
