The Rotary Club of Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday donated several “learning kits” to the Pusat Ehsan special needs centre for the rehabilitation of its students.
The 10 items including splinting material and a staircase trainer totalling B$2,308 were presented to the centre yesterday by the club’s president elect, Ricky Ng to Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Alimin Hj Abd Wahab, Acting Chairman Board of Trustees of Pusat Ehsan.
The splinting material is for the fabrication of orthoses, braces and rehabilitation devices or aids to correct or prevent further injuries or deformities and for conditions that need a high degree of support and control.
The introduction of these devices would benefit students with cerebral palsy, brain injury and other orthopaedic conditions, the centre said.
The exercise staircase is used to train the students on how to independently and safely use the stairs within home and community settings.
Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Alimin Hj Abd Wahab gave his gratitude and thanks to the President of the Rotary Club for the donation.
There are 97 special needs students receiving physiotherapy (PT) and occupational therapy (OT) programmes in Pusat Ehsan.
A large number are receiving 45-minute PT and OT sessions three times a week, depending on their level of ability.
The centre aims to help the special needs students achieve their fullest functional capacity with their present limitations and capabilities.
