RUSTENBURG, SOUTH AFRICA, Feb 25 (NNN-BUANEWS) — Police chiefs of the 32 nations participating in the upcoming 2010 FIFA World Cup will gather in Zurich next month to exchange security information ahead of the month-long tournAment.
The teams’ security officers will also attend the two-day meeting from March 4 at FIFA’s headquarters in Zurich.
“For the first time in the history of an international (sports) federation, we will have a meeting with chiefs of police of the 32 nations that qualified for the World Cup, plus the security officers of these teams. All in all we will have 90 people attending this meeting,” said FIFA General-Secretary Jerome Valcke on Tuesday.
He said regular meetings had been held between the South African Police Services (SAPS) and police from other parts of the world.
“We felt that it was important to bring together the chiefs of police and security officers of the teams to exchange information on security issues,” he said.
“On the first day of the meeting, there will be a working day between the teams’ law enforcement and FIFA, while on the last day, the 2010 Local Organizing Committee will interact with the chiefs of police and security officers.” — NNN-BUANEWS![]()
