MONTEVIDEO, Feb 26 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – Uruguay’s Public Health Ministry (MSP) Director Jorge Basso said that for the first time in the history of Uruguay child birth mortality went down 1 percent when it came to 10.3 percent in 2008.
With the Frente Amplio (FA, Wide Front) administration started in 2005 it reached 13.6 percent.
Mother mortality in Uruguay was of 3.4 percent last year while birth mortality reached 10 percent, the (MSP) reported.
Sixteen pregnant women died last year, 50 percent of them because of complications coming from the A (H1N1) influenza virus, and the rest from infections and blood high pressure.
Basso said these positive figures are the result of development policies by the coalition government in many aspects, including public health.
Meanwhile Public Health Minister Daniel Olesker said the public health reform is included in president-elect Jose Mujica plans to eliminate poverty and richness redistribution and solve the dwelling problem.
Olesker the FA administration plans to prioritise mental and mouth health and sanitation in rural zones and the incorporation of epidemiologic units in the 19 provinces of Uruguay. –NNN-PRENSA LATINA
