Heeding Sultan’s titah on faith and sincerity

Aziz Idris Feb 27th, 2010 .

A SINCERE faith is a genuine faith. From whichever angle you examine it, it is consistent and the same: We have a sincere faith when we are consistent in our family, work, religion and community.

Brunei celebrates the birthday anniversary of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) with mass gatherings and processions in all four districts today. In a titah, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam reminded his subjects of the importance of faith and sincerity in all aspects of life.

Speaking to the Bulletin, 33-year-old enforcement officer, Hjh Juliana Hj Jailani agreed that, regardless of our race or religion, we should lead our everyday life with sincerity and faith.

“I think there is too much greed in the society…greed for money, power and even fame. People are tempted with all the riches in the world, to a point where lying and dishonesty is a norm.

“I hope with sincerity and strong faith as what was practised by Prophet Muhammad (pbuh), this will bring light to the society and to the world,” commented Hjh Juliana.

Hj Marzuki Daud, a businessman from Kuala Belait also agreed that the teachings and practices of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) should be upheld by all Muslims across the world.

“My daughter is currently furthering her studies in Europe, and she is exposed to a lot of negative racial
sentiments, especially when she wears a headscarf (tudong). She told me she was scared wearing her headscarf in public and gets harassed by racist(s).

“I reminded her that even Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) faced all sorts of obstacles and tests in spreading Islam. The Prophet did not surrender and he continued with patience and perseverance. Let that be your inspiration.
“You must have strong faith in your religion and it is part of your existence as a Muslim woman to wear a veil,” Hj Marzuki reminded his daughter.

Meanwhile, Jasni Moksin, 40, commented that sincerity and faith relate to each other. “People without sincerity are people without faith,” he simply said.

He praised His Majesty’s government for curbing unhealthy activities such as corruption and drug abuse as well as smuggling that are making headlines.

He also praised His Majesty’s titah in reminding his subjects to extol the virtues of faith and sincerity.
“I believe everything will come together when the society realises the values of being sincere and having strong faith,” said one member of the public, who chose to remain anonymous.

He also said that regardless of rank or status, as Bruneians we should have these values for our country too. “We can relate it to the National Day theme ‘My Country Brunei Darussalam’ where we can show our faithfulness and sincerity to our country,” he added.

His Majesty called on all citizens to wear ‘sincere clothing’ that is both beautiful and pure for our life and the hereafter. This is as a symbol of love and respect for the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) in commemorating his birthday.
