Brunei students at religious camp in London

“Kem Ibadah” is an annual event organised by its Student Chairperson Ahmad Shamil Hj Abd Rahman and Rozailah Hj Abd Rahman. It was first introduced last year, and this year the Kem Ibadah programme was held from February 12 to 14.

With help from all the committee members as well as cooperation and support of the Bruneian Students’ Unit (UPP), the camp was a success.

Its participants were Bruneian students who came from all over the UK and Eire, which were made up of 55 male and 77 female students. Among them was Dk Hjh Fatin Syahirah Pg Hj Matusin, President of the Brunei Students’ Union (BSUnion).

The three-day, two-night event was held at the Surau of Brunei Hall in London. The opening was officiated by the event’s mentor Ustaz Hj Raminey, Religious Officer of the UPP.

A doa was read by Ak Mohd Sallehuddin Pg Osman – one of the student event committee members – to ensure that the ceremony was blessed.

With this year’s theme “Membina Pelajar Bertaqwa”, which loosely translates to ‘Building Students Towards Piety’, time spent during this camping experience was filled with workshops, short stories that aspires ways of Islamic living, and student talks.

Among the topics discussed were “Hakikat Manusia” by Muhd Najib Hj Latif, “Pelajar Bertaqwa” by Ahmad Musaddiq Mohammad and “Hidup Untuk Memberi” by Ahmad Hafiz Hj Nordin. The main talk was delivered by Ustaz Hj Raminey with his topic “Islam Sepenuhnya”.


The closing ceremony saw the guest of honour, Cikgu Abdullah Hj Ahad, the UPP’s Director of Studies, presenting certificates of participation to all those involved.

In his closing speech, Cikgu Abdullah urged the students to be actively involved in any religious activities organised either by UPP or any Brunei student societies in the UK.

He also reminded the participants not to get influenced by some Islamic deviant teachings that can mislead them away from the true path. He also advised the participants to put themselves forward and together to make our beloved nation as “Negara Dzikir” or a ‘Dzikir Nation’.

Also present at the closing to enlighten the event were fellow UPP officers.

The main objective of Kem Ibadah was to strengthen ties amongst Bruneian students in the UK and Eire, as well as to promote and educate the participants on the Islamic ways of living and set as a reminder to always cherish them.
