BRUNEI’S national flag was lowered down yesterday marking the closing of the 26th National Day celebrations.

The ceremony, held in front of the Taman Hj Sir Muda Omar ‘Ali Saifuddien, saw 20 personnels from the Royal Brunei Navy hoisting down the giant flag measuring at 3.7m by 7.3m (12 by 24 feet), accompanied by the Royal Brunei Police Force marching band performing the National Anthem. Students from Sekolah Tinggi Perempuan Raja Isteri (STPRI) Secondary School and Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien (Soas) College also joined in the singing of the National Anthem as part of the choir.

The giant flag was raised on February 7 to mark the official start of the National Day celebration and the hoisting of flags at all homes, government and private buildings. Similar events were also held at the other districts.

Yesterday’s ceremony concluded with the handing over of the national flag to the guest of honour, Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports, Dato Paduka Hj Jemat Hj Ampal. The Brunei Times
