QUITO, March 1 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – At least 2.4 percent of the Ecuadorian people are disabled, President Rafael Correa said following a study carried out in 11 provinces.
The home-to-home census, as part of the Manuela Espejo solidarity mission involving a joint effort by Ecuadorian and Cuban doctors helped the government to give more attention to this sector of the population, focusing aid to the needy.
The Manuela Espejo mission has the objective to carry out a bio-psycho-social study of the disabled and is promoted by the Vice Presidency of the Republic, supported by the Cuban government and the Ecuadorian ministries of Public Health and Defense.
During his regular radio and TV broadcast Sat Feb 27on his performance, Correa said that under the census 415,000 homes have been visited in 11 provinces requiring significant financial assistance.
He said the mission will have resources needed to complete the census countrywide and described the effort so far as successful. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA![]()
