LUBANGO, ANGOLA, March 4 (NNN-ANGOP) — At least 156,400 insecticide-impregnated mosquito nets are being distributed since the beginning of this year through 454 clinics of Angola’s southern Huíla province by the Departments of Public Health and Control of Disease as part of the government’s anti-malaria programme.
Speaking to Angop in the provincial capital, Lubango, Wednesday, a department official, Lelo Zola, said that of the number of mosquito nets, 84,039 were being distributed to pregnant women and 72,274 were going to mothers of children below five years of age.
The official explained that the programme included the distribution of anti-malaria tablets and vitamin A.
Zola informed also that the Public Health Administration handed 49,299 mosquito nets over to clinics of Lubango, 14,900 went to Caconda district, 13,900 to Chibia, 13,100 to Matala, 12,000 to Jamba, 11,100 to Gambos.
He added that Quipungo would receive 9,800, while Kuvango would get 6,700 and 6,400 would be supplied to Caluquembe, while Quilengues, Cacula and Chicomba would get 5,100, 3,100 and 3,100 nets respectively.
The official said the purpose of the programme was to reduce the rate of malaria, in which the authorities were getting support from the United Nations Children’s Fund (Unicef).
