Royal Regalia continues to attract tourists, students from all districts

THE Royal Regalia Building in the capital continues to be one of the most popular ,tourist destination among locals as well as foreign visitors in the country.

According to 2009 statistics, the regalia received a total of 79,797 people comprising domestic visitors and foreign tourists. The number includes visits made by prominent figures, children as well as schools and colleges inside and outside the country.

The foreign visitors came from various countries including Asean countries as well as from China, Korea, Japan, India, Nepal and Saudi Arabia and from Western nations such as UK, USA, Canada, Germany, Wales, Switzerland, Norway, France and so on.

Meanwhile, figures in 2008 recorded a total of 102,966 people from January to December.

When asked the reasons behind the decline in visitors from 2008 to 2009, the officer said it may be due to the HINI pandemic situation.

In January 2009 , some 1,832 locals visited the building. The number shows an increase from month to month with the highest number recorded in December totalling 3,054 people due to long school holidays.

The number of children who visited the building last year totalled 2,216 with the highest recorded was in the month of December during school holidays.

In February, the building also received students from both local and foreign schools including a visit by students from Sekolah Menengah Islam Hadayah, Malaysia.

Based on statistics from February 1 until February 25, 2010, a total of 311 students had made educational visits to the building.

The officer said normally teachers from respective schools would bring their students to visit the building after their examinations as part of their educational tour.

The building displays a large number of the Royal Regalia that had been inherited from generation to generation.
