ABUJA (NIGERIA), March 7 (NNN-MAP) — The executive committee of the United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLGA) chose the Moroccan city of Rabat to host its headquarters.
Following the association’s pan-African electoral general assembly (March 5-6), the executive committee confirmed the choice of Rabat to host the UCLGA headquarters and appointed Cameroonian Jean-Pierre Elong Mbassi as executive secretary of this institution, Rabat’s Mayor Fathallah Oualalou told MAP.
Oualalou, who was elected vice-president of the association for the north African region, said that Kenyan Tarayia Ole Kores was unanimously elected president of the UCLGA.
In its final declaration issued on Saturday, the presidents of associations of municipalities and mayors of the African continents called for holding a meeting next April at the UCLGA headquarters in Rabat.
Casablanca’s Mayor Mohamed Sajid said the general assembly was a tremendous stride on the path of unifying the African municipal movement. — NNN-MAP
