MONTEVIDEO, Mar 8 (NNN-PRENSA LATINA) – An Indian delegation of representatives from nine companies is now in Montevideo to explore trade opportunities in sectors like auto parts, water pumps, machineries, and industrial accessories.
The Indian delegation’s head Aman Chadha said Uruguay’s location and appropriate infrastructure are important as receptor and distributor of Indian manufacture in the region, particularly within the Market of the South (MERCOSUR), a bloc integrated by Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay.
In 2009, bilateral trade reached US$58 million, a figure expected to increase considerably, according to recent statements by Uruguayan Foreign Minister Luis Almagro who noted the strategy will be to bring forward relations with India and China.
According to Almagro, India has decided to open a consulate in Montevideo in line with New Delhi’s intentions to extend its presence both in Uruguay and the region. — NNN-PRENSA LATINA
