THE government of Brunei and India signed an agreement yesterday for the purchase of nearly three acres of land at the Diplomatic Enclave at Jalan Kebangsaan, for the new Indian Chancery and Indian High Commissioner’s residence for $1.2 million.
The signing ceremony took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MoFAT) in Subok, between Deputy Permanent Secretary at MoFAT Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Nor Jeludin and Indian High Commissioner to Brunei Riewad Warjri.
The Indian High Commissioner told The Brunei Times that funds to start the build are already available and they are prepared to start construction as soon as other formalities such as surveying and documentation are completed.
Warjri added that they are in the process of getting the relevant personnel such as architects and surveyors to start the project.
Currently, the United States and Philippines embassies are constructing their diplomatic posts at the enclave.
