STANDARD Chartered Bank is seeking out clients to guide them through the changes in credit card rules, a bank officer yesterday said.
“We’re implementing these regulatory changes in a few stages so we’ve got a team calling up our customers and we’ve sent out letters inviting customers to come and talk to us, to see how we can help them,” said Olivia Yong, general manager for branch sales and services at the bank, during an event announcing the bank is extending operating hours at its Manggis branch.
Yong told The Brunei Times the bank was doing its best to help clients. “We’ve come up with very attractive payroll packages and promotions tailored to help them out,” she said. “Our priority is to get customers to assign their payrolls to (Standard Chartered) if they don’t currently bank with us,” she said.
Under the new rules, customers can be issued a credit card only by a bank with which he keeps his payroll account.

The bank is also offering preferential rates on fixed deposits, discounts on unit trust subscription fees and home loan processing fees.
Head of Corporate Affairs and Marketing, Jennifer Kang, added, “Our credit cards are very much liked by people and we’ve got a great loyalty track record so our customers are eager to stay with us.”
Yong said the bank is bringing back extended banking hours at its Manggis branch to attract more customers. “Our customers are important to us and are at the heart of everything we do, so as a result of customer feedback, we’ve decided to reinstate the extended hours and created some new services to better serve our new and loyal customers.”
The Manggis branch will be open seven days a week, from 9am to 9pm Mondays to Fridays, 9am to 4pm on Saturdays and 11am to 4pm on Sundays and public holidays. Previously, the branch closed at 4pm on weekdays and 11.30am on Saturdays.
All banking services, such as teller transactions will be available to clients who may not have time to do their banking during office hours.
Yong added, “We’ve consolidated our account opening forms so the process now only takes 20 minutes and at the same time, customers will receive their ATM cards and PIN on the spot, and (they) can use this within 24 hours.” The Brunei Times
