Fifty Fire and Rescue personnel who took part in the Fire and Rescue Endurance Road March successfully completed the 50km course yesterday and then managed to showcase their mental and physical toughness by dragging a fire engine filled with 5,000 litres of water in front of HRH Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the establishment of Fire and Rescue Department.
The march, which started on Monday at 9pm, began from the capital and passed through Jalan Kumbang Pasang, Jalan Berakas, Jalan Mentiri Besar, Jalan Kebangsaan Lama, Jalan Salambigar, the Muara-Tutong highway, Jalan Lambak Kanan and Jalan Berakas. The personnel arrived back at the Fire and Rescue headquarters at 6am yesterday for the Golden Jubilee celebrations.
Station Officer Hj Rosdy, who led the march, said in an interview, “We feel relieved and happy that we managed to complete the endurance road march without any problems.
“The most challenging part was fatigue and sleepiness. It’s very tough but in the end we made it,” he added.
“All the 50 participants, including 11 female personnel, came through in the end. This is because of our teamwork and team spirit.”
The endurance run was aimed at testing the mental and physical fitness of fire fighters and to enliven the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Fire and Rescue Department.
